What muniway.com collects, why we collect it and who else sees it.

Who we are

Muniway builds websites and tools for local governments. We're based in Michigan. In this policy, "Muniway," "we" and "us" mean Muniway, and "the site" means muniway.com.

This policy covers this site only. It doesn't cover the websites we build for clients. Each client decides how its own site handles information, under its own policies.

Information you give us

Demo requests. The demo request form asks for your name, job title, work email, organization, state and population. You can also add a phone number, the topics you're interested in and a message.

Emailed check reports. When you ask the ADA website checker to email you a report, we ask for your name, work email and organization. Your job title is optional. We send the report to the address you give. We also get a copy with your contact details, the address of the page you checked and a summary of the results, so we can follow up.

Email. If you write to us, we get your email address and whatever you include.

We receive form submissions by email or in our server logs.

The free ADA website checker

When you enter a web address, our servers fetch that page and scan it for accessibility issues. Your browser doesn't load the page you're checking. Our servers do.

We don't save your results. They go back to your browser and are shown on the page. Once you leave, they're gone, unless you emailed yourself a report.

Our server logs may record the address of a page you checked: the site and path, without any query string. This mostly happens when a check fails.

Only check public pages. Don't enter an address that contains a password, a token or other private details.

Information collected automatically

Hosting logs. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like most web hosts, Vercel records basic details about each request, such as IP address, the page requested, browser type and time. We use these logs to run the site, fix problems and keep it secure.

Abuse limits. To stop abuse, the forms and the checker limit how many requests can come from one IP address. The report form also limits how often a report about the same site can go to the same email address. We keep these counts only in server memory. We don't write them to a database.

Google Analytics. On the live site we use Google Analytics 4 to see how people use it. It records the pages you visit, how you found the site, your general location, and your device and browser. It also records a few events: when someone runs a check (only how many issues were found at each severity, not the address checked), and when someone sends the demo form or asks for a report. Google Analytics uses cookies. See Cookies below.

Google handles this data under its own policies. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab) and the Google privacy policy (opens in a new tab). To turn off Google Analytics on every site you visit, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).

Vercel Web Analytics. We also use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't identify individual visitors. Vercel says it tells visits apart with a hash made from the request, and that visit data is discarded after 24 hours. See Vercel's analytics privacy page (opens in a new tab).

Videos. If a page includes a YouTube video, nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. The video then plays from YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and Google's privacy policy applies.

Cookies

Our own code doesn't set cookies. Google Analytics sets these on the live site:

Cookies set by Google Analytics
CookieWhat it doesHow long it lasts
_gaTells one visitor's browser apart from another.Up to 2 years
_ga_<ID> (on this site, _ga_7M024DV3QN)Keeps track of your current visit.Up to 2 years

These durations come from Google's cookie documentation (opens in a new tab). Your browser may delete them sooner. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site still works without them.

How we use information

  • To reply to you, set up a demo and run the free check you asked for.
  • To send the reports you request.
  • To follow up by email about your check or our services. If you'd rather not hear from us, tell us and we'll stop.
  • To run the site, keep it secure and learn which pages are useful.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We don't sell personal information. We don't use it or share it for targeted advertising.

Who we share it with

We share information only with companies that help us run the site, and only for that purpose:

  • Vercel hosts the site, keeps server logs and runs Vercel Web Analytics.
  • Google runs Google Analytics.
  • Resend sends the site's email, including the reports you request.
  • Cloudflare runs the DNS for muniway.com. It answers lookups for the domain. Site traffic doesn't pass through it.
  • Our email provider stores the messages we receive.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or merger of our business. In a sale or merger, this policy would still apply to the information.

How long we keep it

We keep form submissions and emails as long as we need them to work with you and keep records of our business. When we no longer need them, we delete them.

Server logs are kept for a limited time set by our hosting plan. Google Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics settings, and Google deletes it after that.

Security

The site uses HTTPS on every page. We limit who can see form submissions and logs. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that information will never be exposed.

Children

This site is for adults who work in or with local government. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Your choices and rights

  • Ask what information we have about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Email hello@muniway.com. We may need to confirm who you are first.
  • Ask us to stop emailing you.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you other rights. Email us and we'll respond as the law requires.

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no common standard for it, so the site doesn't change what it does when it gets one. You can still turn off Google Analytics with the options above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll say so on this page.
