SINCE 2013 About Muniway

Building government websites since 2013.

You keep your community's website running on top of everything else. We've built websites for local governments since 2013, and we make the job easier: every tool included, accessibility built in and a rate that doesn't surprise your board.

Our story

Who you'd be working with.

We've built websites for local governments since 2013. Genesee Township, Michigan is one of them, and its site still serves residents today.

You may know the problems already: paying separately for each tool, renewals that go up every year, accessibility sold as an extra, and the worry that switching vendors means losing years of agendas and minutes.

So we built Muniway around the opposite: one website with every tool included, built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, at a rate that doesn't change for the length of your contract.

  1. The first sites

We start building websites for local governments.

  2. Genesee Township

A charter township site with meetings, FOIA and BS&A bill pay.

  3. Today

Every tool included and accessibility built in, for towns, townships, villages, cities and counties.

What you can count on.

Each one starts with a problem local government staff know well. Here's what changes for you.

  • The problem: Per-module pricing

A website should come with its tools.

Agendas, alerts, forms, payments and FOIA are what your residents come for. They're part of the website, not separate line items.

  • The problem: Renewals that only go up

A rate you can budget for.

Your rate is locked for the length of your contract, so next year's budget doesn't hold a surprise.

  • The problem: Accessibility as an add-on

    Accessibility isn't an upgrade.

The website is built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA and checked after launch. No overlay toolbar sold as a fix.

  • The problem: Lock-in

    Your content belongs to you.

Your domain and your content stay yours, with a full export anytime. If you ever leave, your archives leave with you.

  • The problem: PDF-only documents

Residents shouldn't need a PDF reader.

Your agendas and documents get a web version residents can read on a phone or with a screen reader.

How we work with you.

You get a partner, not a ticket number. The same team designs, builds and supports your community's website, from the first call to long after launch.

  • Support from the people who built it

Your questions go to the team that knows your community's website. Training on day one, and help whenever staff change or something new comes up.

  • The technical side is handled

Hosting, security, backups and updates are handled for you, so your staff can focus on residents.

How a new website comes together.

Four steps, with the same team from the first call to long after launch.

  1. Talk

A 30-minute call about how your office works and what residents call about most. We run a free ADA check on your current website, so you have something concrete to take to your board.

  2. Plan and design

You get a schedule once we've seen how much content needs to move. Then a design that fits your community, which your staff review before anything goes live.

  3. Move

We move your pages, documents and years of agendas and minutes. Your staff doesn't retype a thing, and your domain stays registered to you.

  4. Launch and support

Training on day one. After launch, hosting, security, backups and updates are handled, and your questions go to the people who built the website.

Where we are

Based in Michigan, working nationwide.

If you're in Michigan, we know your Open Meetings Act rules, FOIA requirements and BS&A setup. If you're elsewhere, we build for local governments in any state, and the state guides cover what applies to your community's website.

Our promises

Four promises you can hold us to.

  1. Every tool included, no per-module pricing.

  2. Your rate is locked for the length of your contract.

  3. No lock-in. Your domain and your content stay yours, with a full export anytime.

  4. Works with BS&A.

Questions about working with us.

Short answers. Ask us anything else on a demo call.

Who builds and supports our website?

The same team that designs and builds it. After launch, your questions go to people who know your community's website, not a ticket queue. Email hello@muniway.com and you'll hear back from them.

How long have you built local government websites?

Since 2013. Genesee Township, Michigan is one of the communities we've built for, and you can see its website on our clients page.

Do you work with local governments outside Michigan?

Yes. We're based in Michigan and build for towns, townships, villages, cities and counties in any state. Our guides cover Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota as well as Michigan, and on a call we'll walk through your state's posting rules with you.

What happens when someone new takes over the website?

We train them. Training starts on day one, and when someone new joins your staff, we walk them through posting agendas, notices and documents.

How do you handle accessibility?

The website is designed and built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, tested with a keyboard and a screen reader, and monitored after launch. We don't sell an overlay toolbar as a fix. Your staff keep adding agendas and PDFs, so we train them and check new uploads too. Read how accessibility works.

Let's talk about your website.

A 30-minute call. Tell us how your office works, and we'll show you what your community's new website could look like.
